Bright Spots in Brighton

September 10, 2010

Hey everyone- it’s Angela! Last week, Amy and I tried out our first distance date in Brighton, Michigan. To be honest, we weren’t sure what to expect considering neither of us had ever visited Brighton before. After a little web browsing on the awesome Downtown Brighton site (definitely recommend visiting this site before going), Amy and I decided to visit Stone Fire Bistro seen as we both are hardcore Italian food lovers.

I showed up 10 minutes early, Amy showed up 20 minutes late. We make a great pair :)

While I patiently waited (and promised the waitress that I was NOT being stood up), I ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. It was absolutely fantastic and I had to force myself to eat slowly and save some for Amy! Definitely one of the best S&A dips I’ve had. And, bless her heart, the waitress casually chatted with me about my date being caught in traffic to ease the mood!

After Amy arrived, we wasted no time getting to our food. Amy ordered the Four Cheese Baccis and I tried the White Sauce Clam Linguini. Our waitress helped us with our wine selections and Amy ended up with the Cylces Gladiator, Pinot Noir while I got the Old Mission Peninsula, Chateau Grand Traverse ‘Semi-Dry’ Riesling. Both were absolutely delicious and fantastic choices with our meals. The prices were completely reasonable with what we got and I will definitely be returning!

From there, Amy spotted a cute Martini Bar on her way into town so we made our way down to Downtown Main Martini Bar & Grille. Inside, even though we got seated at a wobbly table, the atmosphere was pretty adorable. With loungy leather couches, modern candle-lit tables, and a live singing trio, the spot was definitely worth the wobbles. We got seated far enough from the band that we were able to have a decent table conversation and still hear both each other and the music.

Amy treated me to my first big-girl martini, a Blushing Lady while she tried the Ecstasy martini. Both were amazing, though I did like Amy’s more. We shared a plate of four huge chocolate covered strawberries. I would definitely recommend getting these, but maybe not on a first date. The chocolate was great, but broke pretty easily and I’m sure we both looked like hot messes trying to eat them. They were, however, worth the work.

So that was it! Our very first distance date to somewhere new! Expect more from us as we visit Michigan hot spots and discover hidden gems across the state. We will definitely be back to Brighton, and definitely back to both locations. Give them a try if you’re in town, we promise you won’t be disappointed!
